As a Christian, sin should disgust us. But the people sinning, should not. If we turn away from the 'unforgiven,' they will never trust anything we say or follow any suggestions we make.
I think the biggest mistake 'Christians' make, is that we forget that even though we have been-and are-forgiven, we still sin! DAILY!
I am reading "Mere Christianity" by C.S. Lewis (as recommended by my awesome husband!), and he has so many awesome points. One of my favorites so far, however, is that Christianity is not about our little lists of 'right' and 'wrong.' He says if we thought only of the particular actions, "we might think that God wanted simply obedience to a set of rules: whereas He really wants people of a particular sort."
So, he's saying...we shouldn't care about rules? Absolutely not! God's not looking for people who are trying to serve Him but are pushing away the unsaved because they are interfering with prayer time, or dressing immodestly, or...loving the same gender...idolizing porn...lying...cheating...stealing...are prideful...gossip...ouch. What? Did I list something that looks familiar to you? We "ALL have sinned and fall short of the glory of God"-Romans 3:23. We can't measure up...we're not supposed to! Talking about the coworker who's having an affair, or the girl in the youth group who got pregnant, or boycotting the makers of a product because they support homosexuals, will not make their problems go away. It will not help them see the 'right' path and make them want to be 'like you,' a Christian. They will not want to listen to what you have to say, and furthermore, will possibly want to end up doing the opposite just to spite you and your perfect little self. So...what to do?
What does the Bible say? Wait for it...LOVE them. PRAY for them. If you want to talk to someone about it, TALK TO GOD. After all..."while WE were yet sinners...Christ died for us"-Romans 5:8. If you were already forgiven, you wouldn't have needed Him. God's hope for us is that we reach out to those who are 'lost'...and if nothing else, love them.
One of the best songs ever written (imho), is "Jesus, Friend of Sinners" by Casting Crowns. How different would we as Christians be viewed if we put down our signs and stones and reached out our hands?
"No one knows what we're for only what we're against when we judge the wounded."
"I was the lost cause. I was the outcast."-Casting Crowns, "Jesus, Friend of Sinners"
